The Great Gods of Ancient Egypt

In ancient Egypt, Religon guided every aspect of life. In fact, religon was very important back then. Ancient Egyptian religon was polytheistic, and had as many as 2000 gods. To see a list of some of the many gods, click here. Usually, these gods would be part human, and part animal. For example, Horus, the sky god, had the head of a hawk, and a human body. These gods also controlled your fate, which was predetermined by them.
The ancient Egyptians found that the bull, crocodile, and cat were holy. The egyptians had two main gods. There was Amon-Ra, who was the sun god and lord of the universe. The other god was Osiris, god of the underworld. Stories about him involved immortality, and because of him, peace in the afterlife was possible. The afterlife was important part of the ancient Egyptian religion, and because of that, they often spent a lot of time preparing for it. They saw death as a transition to life in the next world, and each city had a temple for where the sun gods would often dwell.
The Egyptians also believed that the world started in an ocean of darkness. Dry land rose up out of the water & the sun god, Ra, appeared. Ra created light and all things.
